Community Involvement For You and Your Baby

About Roots of Empathy

Roots of Empathy is an international non-profit that helps nurture empathy in grade school children. We are inviting parent(s) with a new baby (2-4 months in October) who would love the opportunity to participate and share in community, delight, and learning and help create the caring classrooms your baby will grow to be a part of.

At the heart of the program are a neighborhood baby and parent(s) who visit a grade school classroom 1x/month with the same kids and school teacher starting in October through the school year, with the baby in the role of “tiny teacher” just by being themselves.  Video link (1 ½ minute intro): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrqt4dPGBXo

A trained local volunteer instructor delivers a weekly curriculum, with the support of the schools and teacher in the classroom. Independent research around the world for the last 20 years shows lasting increases in sharing, caring, and helping, and decreases in bullying and aggression.

Kids learn about and follow parent comfort levels with space, touch, health, and germs as part of the program.

All diversities of essential!

Whatcom Elementary Schools in Bellingham, Ferndale, and Mt. Baker School District, and Blaine Primary have openings for the upcoming school year.
